Digital Marketing (DM) is also called ‘Internet marketing’,’Web marketing’ or ‘Online marketing’. DM is the marketing of products or services using digital technologies, basically on the internet. It also includes mobile phones, advertisements, applications, search, banner ads, blogs, websites and other digital media.

Digital marketing’s development since the 1990s and 2000s have changed the way brands and businesses use technology for the market. As digital platforms are highly increasing incorporated into marketing plans and everyday life, and as people use digital devices instead of visiting physical shops, DM campaigns are becoming more prevalent and efficient.
Digital Marketing methods such as search engine optimization (SEO), search engine marketing (SEM), content marketing, influencer marketing, marketing, social media content automation, campaign marketing, data-driven marketing,e-commerce marketing, social media optimization, e-mail direct marketing, display advertising, e-books, and optical disks and games are becoming more common in our advanced technology. In fact, DM now extends to non-Internet channels that provide digital media, such as mobile phones (SMS and MMS), callback, and on-hold mobile ringtones.
In essence, this extension to non-Internet channels helps to differentiate digital marketing from online marketing, another catch-all term for the marketing methods mentioned above, which strictly occur online. DM creates a level playing field for all marketers. It does not require a big budget or money, hence small businesses and start-ups can leverage it easily. It does not have a huge cost as an entry barrier like traditional ads. Marketers can get instant feedback in DM that enables them to optimise their campaigns. They know what is working and what is not, and hence can tweak the campaign mid-way. This improves the Real Time Investment(ROI) of DM.
